Disney is offering a new experience that you can set up before you even leave home, Fastpass+. Gone are the days of ticket machines and worrying you will lose your Fastpass. Approximately 60 days before you leave for your vacation you can set up your Fastpass+.. This does take a bit of planning. It you are following my "getting started" tips, you will have no trouble when making your selections.
Things to consider when making Fastpass+ reservations, all choices should be in the same park. Especially if you are going during a peak season. We just returned from 10 days over the Christmas/New Years holiday time and really enjoyed using the Fastpass+ system as this is a REALLY busy time at the resort. You also want to get the passes as early in the morning as possible. Disney requires you to use ALL THREE passes before you can make another selection.
When you are making your selections, you will notice your attractions are broken down into different categories. The best I can tell, it is separated by ride popularity. Being that I was new to the system I just booked a little haphazardly and regretted some of my choices later. All of your choices can be monitored through the My Disney Experience App.
Here are some of my recommendations:
Attractions you will want a Fastpass+ for if possible:
Animal Kingdom
Expedition Everest
Kilimanjaro Safari
Festival of the Lion King
Attractions to skip Fastpass+ at Animal Kingdom
The Finding Nemo show, as I mention later we found that using a Fastpass+ for most shows is unnecessary.
Magic Kingdom
Splash Mountain
Jingle Cruise (Jungle Cruise at holiday time)
Peter Pan's Flight (My son and I waited 20 minutes with a Fastpass+ for this one. I never saw the standby line below 65 minutes)
Seven Dwarf Mine Train*
Attractions to skip Fastpass+ at Magic Kingdom
Aladdin's Flying Carpets
Tomorrow land attractions (we went here first thing in the morning, especially with the Magic Hour for staying at the resort and didn't need to waste a Fastpass+ here)
Hollywood Studios
Toy Story Mania
Tower of Terror
Rock 'n' Roller Coaster
Notes to consider about Fastpass+ at Hollywood Studios
Testtrack
Mission Space
Soarin' *rumor has it that Soarin' is closing down for a major rehabilitation
There is not much you would need a Fastpass+ for in the World Showcase section of Epcot. Instead think about looking into some dining reservations at a few of the hard to get locations. Please check out my blog on Disney Dining tips and tricks!
If you have any questions or want more information on anything I have said here, please feel free to contact me. Thank you and happy planning!

Notes to consider about Fastpass+ at Hollywood Studios
- Hollywood Studios has a lot of shows! For most of these shows, Fastpass+ does not give you specialized seating. That being said, we used a Fastpass+ for the Beauty of the Beast stage show, as we were unable to get anything else.
- Also something to consider, if you get a Fastpass+ for Fantasmic, that locks you out of the system all day as Fantasmic is later in the evening. If you are traveling with older children who stay up later, this might be something to consider.
